Tip # 8 Find a Buddy

If you are struggling to get motivated to workout, find a buddy. Find a friend, spouse, neighbor or one of your kids to help keep you accountable. Look for someone that wants to do something like you are planning, whether it is walk, bike, jog, a boot camp class or go to the gym. It will be more fun to walk or jog with a partner, and you will be less likely to cancel. Plan ahead as to what days you will meet each week. If your partner is one of your kids, still plan ahead. Put your schedule somewhere that they can see it, and I bet they will help remind and encourage you to go. Maybe you want to do a 5K and you can find a buddy that wants to train with you. What a fun journey to do together! My son and I had been working together and talking about our 5K for a few months and finally ran it last weekend. He had a blast and is begging me to sign us up again, and I can’t wait! Even though you need motivation, finding a partner will be helping someone else as well. You may be surprised by how much you could motivate someone else with your lack of motivation! Ha!

You can also have an accountability buddy that you don’t even train with. Maybe you have someone at work or a friend that lives in another town that you know is trying to get into an exercise routine. Just talking and checking in with each other will keep you going. Do it regularly and do it often. As you get going, you will look forward to sharing your progress and so will they.

If you haven’t got yourself moving yet, find a training partner! Find a workout buddy! Find a training group in your area. You won’t regret it. I promise that your kids would love to be your partner too. You are giving them the best gift by being an example of good health and being active. Their generation needs to see and feel early how important it is to be active.  If they start the habit now, they will have a better chance at a  lifetime of healthy habits.

Enjoy today and get moving!
