5 Simple Shifts for a Healthy Home

5 Simple Shifts for a Healthy Home

There are simple choices you can make daily in your home for a healthier environment that will reduce your stress, leave you energized, and improve your everyday mindset.

  1. Leave shoes at the door. Our shoes travel all kinds of public places every day. Clearly, they can carry bacteria, allergens, toxins, and dirt, so leave it all outside instead of bringing it in your house. Even if you are able to leave most of your shoes outside, it makes a difference.
  2. Open a window or door for just 15 minutes. Just opening a window or door for 15-20 minutes a day can help improve the air quality in your house. The fresh air circulating in your home from outside can reduce toxins, and keep your whole family healthier. You will feel more energized and awake with fresh air coming in.
  3. Let the natural light in. Open the blinds, pull back the curtains, and let the sunshine in. Natural light can improve mood, reduce depression, and increase productivity. So, let the sunlight in to improve your mindset and reduce your stress.
  4. Declutter. Not surprisingly, when we have less clutter around us, we feel more confident, focused, and less overwhelmed. Most importantly, there is a sense of calm and relaxation when there is more order around us. Our stress is reduced, our productivity increases, and we feel less anxious.
  5. Create an outdoor spot. Undoubtedly, there are numerous benefits to being outdoors, so create a spot that you can sit outside your house. It can simply be a bench, a few chairs, or a spot to throw out a blanket. When you have a designated spot, you will be more likely to spend some time outside every day. Twenty minutes outdoors can give you vitamin d, boost your immune system, fresh air to breathe, improved mood, and reduced stress. Your stress hormones decrease, and your happiness hormones increase. Along with more clarity and less fog, fresh air and sunshine can also help improve sleep.

Small, simple shifts can make the biggest difference in our health, how we feel, and how we live.
