I know some of us enjoy going to the gym for an hour or more. I don’t. I have never enjoyed being at the gym or working out longer than needed. This post won’t be for everyone, but many of us just want the basics. We don’t need creative, we don’t want to jump off platforms and we aren’t looking for a new routine every time we go to the gym. Consistency and quality of exercise is much more important than quantity. More is not always better. Do something you can stick with. If you aren’t exercising at all, you should just walk, or ride your bike, or do any physical activity that you enjoy, and make it happen a few times a week. Make exercising a habit. When you are starting, you just want consistency.
Too many people work really hard when bathing suit season is approaching, or a wedding or reunion is coming up or they found a new fad diet or program that they are trying. The rest of the year, they eat what they want and occasionally work out. Get off the Yo-Yo and make a commitment to consistently exercise a few times a week, no matter what activity you do. I use the 80/20 rule. Try to make healthy choices 80% of the time, and realize that 20% of the time we will fall off, but it is ok, as long as we get right back on. Make that commitment to yourself today.
[lead]I WILL EXERCISE AT LEAST 3 TIMES EVERY WEEK. I WILL START THIS WEEK. I WILL PUT IT ON MY CALENDAR. 20-30 MINUTES IS WHAT I WILL STRIVE FOR, BUT IF I ONLY HAVE 15, I WILL TAKE IT AND MAKE MY HABIT STICK FOR A LIFETIME.[/lead]
To really achieve feeling good, make it a lifestyle change and a lifelong commitment.
Starting is the hardest part. Just get started.
Start moving and enjoy today!
